IKEA LUNDSKAR Wash-basin Mixer Tap Review

“They don’t make ‘em like they used to.”

All of us have heard our grandpas whining about most modern products. From cars to TVs to mobile phones, you get the idea. But, if grandpa whines about faucets, he has a point.

Faucets these days are built to sell, not built to last, and that leaves the consumer with a bitter taste in his mouth when he finds out his shiny faucet has leaked water all over the kitchen, ruining his expensive wooden flooring.

That’s why we’re featuring the IKEA Lundskar today, which is a durable faucet that doesn’t compromise on features and is excellent value-for-money.

So, let’s dive into its features!

Ikea Faucet Reviews 2022: Why buy this product?

Durability

ikea kitchen faucet reviewStarting off with the most important aspect, the IKEA Lundskar is built to last.

It features ceramic disks that withstand friction during temperature changes, so you can switch from cold to hot or vice-versa for as long as you want without having to worry about the faucet.

The discs are fire-hardened and have a watertight seal between them that is near-perfectly flat. Such is the level of craftsmanship, skill, and expertise IKEA is known for!

Moreover, the mechanicals is rated to handle a maximum pressure of 10 bar, which is much higher than the competition!

Apart from the oily (watery?) bits, the Lundskar features brass construction which is durable and is impervious to rust. As exposed brass is not very pretty to look at, it has a chrome-plating on top.

Design

IKEA has built a reputation for itself by giving the gift of beautiful Swedish design to the world. From furniture to home appliances and of course, bathroom fixtures, and the Lundskar is no exception.

Designed by veteran Jon Karlsson, the Lundskar features a single-lever design that looks elegant and reduces bulk. Apart from that, the Lundskar features a minimalist design that’s characteristic of IKEA.

The chrome-plated brass construction coupled with the minimalist design, the Lundskar is best suited for a modern bathroom that includes accompanying fixtures. It would go best with other minimalist fittings from IKEA itself, especially on white and ceramic sinks.

Installation

Before you get excited about enjoying your brand-new faucet, you’ll have to deal with the due diligence of installation first.

The Lundskar will install over most IKEA sinks and other standard sinks from most mainstream manufacturers. Therefore, the Lundskar does not fit IKEA’s HÖRVIK and KATTEVIK range of countertops.

To aid installation, the Lundskar ships with a special tool that makes the process easy. 9/16” connection hoses are also provided. While installing the faucet is easy, it’s still recommended to call a professional for the setup, lest something may go wrong.

Distinguishing features

While the IKEA Lundskar utilizes state-of-the-art technology, don’t think it is just another run-of-the-mill faucet!

The Lundskar features a strainer and a pressure-compensating aerator that reduces water usage and keeps the flow of water the same. In fact, it uses 50% less water than traditional faucets, meaning this faucet is eco-friendly without compromising on premiumness!

Maintenance

Maintenance of the Lundskar is fairly straightforward and doesn’t involve much labour, time or resources.

Start by wiping clean with a water dampened soft cloth and a mild non-abrasive dish detergent or soap, if necessary. IKEA said that scouring powder, steel wool or a detergent that is calcium-dissolving, sour or contains alcohol or an abrasive should not be used, as this could damage the plating.

What could’ve been better?

Well, nothing’s perfect, and this product is no exception, so there are a few areas where it could’ve been better.

While IKEA’s designs are to die for, they often have divided opinions, and the design of the Lundskar is no exception. This is because it’s modern and crisp in a way only IKEA’s design is, and those who like ornate, traditional designs might be put off.

While the Lundskar does have some distinctive features that separate it from the crowd, they aren’t enough, unfortunately. And while the faucet is fine for use in most applications, we can’t help but feel that IKEA has missed an opportunity of incorporating some more features into it.
