Whenever a lazy Sunday afternoon comes around, I like to just sit out on the lawn with my wife and kids, crack open a cold one and grill up a few steaks.
However, grilling steaks can turn out to be a super laborious task, which is the exact opposite of lazing around in the afternoon. And that is where an excellent infrared grill can make all the difference in the world.
Earlier, Char-Broil was the only company that made infrared grills, but due to increased demand, Nexgrill has also jumped into the market. Here are my reviews of the Nexgrill Evolution Series.
Nexgrill Evolution 2 Burner Reviews 2020
First up is this 2 Burner Propane Gas Grill from Nexgrill which is pitched as an excellent budget, space-saving choice for the occasional grilling enthusiast. 2 stainless steel burners with a total of 28,000 BTUs ensure the infrared heat is retained for quick and even cooking. And the foldable side-shelves and compact design will let you set this grill up in the smallest of patios.
My Experience with the product
The front two wheels let you move the grill around. I was surprised by how compact the design was, with the side shelves folded downwards. However, I pulled them back up so that I could rest my beer on it while I was cooking.
Now this grill runs on propane which is convertible to natural gas. However, it does not ship with a propane tank of its own, so you have to buy that separately.
The cooking space was pretty impressive at around 385 square inches, and I could fit up to 10 hamburger patties in there. Unlike your usual grill, you don’t cook over the grates in this one. Instead, you place your meat and vegetables on two stainless steel infrared plates which are suspended above the porcelain-coated, cast-iron cooking grates.
Another feature which I really liked was that there is a separate warming rack above which you can use to warm bread and buns. You don’t have to run into the kitchen every time to microwave your breadsticks. All in all, my ribs cooked fine with a little temperature adjustment here and there and I was delighted with the result.
- Infrared cooking technology allows for uniform heating
- Two 14,500 BTU stainless steel tubular burners
- Battery-powered electronic ignition
- Ample primary cooking space
- Compact, foldable design
- Cast iron cooking grates
- Firebox has an auxiliary upper-level warming rack
- No propane tank included
- Assembly is required
- Stainless steel plates are a little hard to clean
Even though it’s small as compared to larger models, the 19” x 19” cooking space should be more than ample for most families. It might not be the best choice for a large pool party, though. All things considered, if you want a small grill that does its job, this one is a pretty good bet.
Nexgrill Evolution 5 Burner Review 2020
This is an all-in-one solution for all your grilling needs. Built to be the most versatile grilling device on the market, Nexgrill Evolution 5 Burner is equipped with 5 adjustable burners with a total heat of 45,000 BTU.
The best bit is that you can use these burners for cooking directly over the stainless steel grill or you can put in the stainless steel plates to use infrared cooking. Thus, you can cook all infrared, all direct heat or even make combinations.
This makes it a super convenient solution, allowing you to broil, bake, saute, smoke, and sear with the same device.
I was super stoked to try out this grill, and I invited a bunch of my close friends over as well. I wanted to cook some of my smoked ham, tuna, chicken, and pork sausages, along with a ton of veggies. Now I know most of my friends won’t touch the vegetables at all, but I’m sure my wife will make my kids eat them.
I turned on 3 of the 5 total available burners – each for a separate purpose. I turned on one burner with the electric ignition, put the infrared steel plate on top of it and began to broil vegetables and the tuna. Right beside it, I kept my sausages directly over the grill without the infrared plate on another burner.
Now, the steel infrared plates can be used for smoking when turned around, so I was using another burner to smoke the ham. All of this was done at the same time.
The versatility was superb, and I still had two burners I didn’t need to use. There is also an auxiliary side burner with 12,000 BTU which you can use for something else (boiling eggs perhaps). There is also a warming rack for keeping your bread and buns warm.
All of my cooking finished more or less at the same time. My friends and I had a great time, and I would definitely recommend this grill to everyone.
- 5 adjustable stainless-steel main burners of 9,000 BTU each
- The total cooking surface of 676 square inches offers plenty of grilling space
- Electronic ignition system
- A 12,000 BTU side burner lets you cook up a side dish
- The even-heat system distributes heat evenly, prevents spikes and vaporizes food drippings into smoky flavor mixtures
- 8-year warranty on burners
- Offers plenty of cooking options
- Assembly required
- Slightly pricey
- Uses a lot of gas
For all its options and versatility, you might feel that the construction quality is a little flimsy. Thus, you need to take a little extra care of this one. But that really is the only flaw.
The 5 burners along with the side burner let you prepare a ton of food at the same time. Switching between infrared and direct heating enables you to prepare dishes that will suit everyone’s tastes.
And so, if you’re with your work buddies, family or even just by yourself, this grill can make for a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
All in all, I’d say that I’m quite impressed with both the grills, especially the larger one. However, unless you’re catering to a large group of people often, the smaller Nexgrill Evolution should suit your needs just fine.
